Flamingo BehaviorFlamingos are social birds. They live in groups called colonies. Colonies range from tens to thousands of birds. Flamingos are omnivores. They eat crustaceans, plankton, algae, diatoms, insects and worms. These birds spend most of the day feeding, resting, swimming and bathing. Flamingos stand on one leg most of the time in order to rest the other. Flamingos are generally very noisy birds. The most common vocalizations are honking, grunting or howling.
